NFL Week 16 Latest (All Time EST):

___

2:11 p.m.

The already beleaguered Buffalo Bills offensive line suffered another heavy blow in their decisive clash with New England.

Left guard Ike Boettger was taken out of the field early in the second quarter with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Buffalo appeared to be on the verge of being in good health after left tackle Dion Dawkins was struck off the reserve / COVID-19 list on Saturday. Starting right-wing goalie Jon Feliciano, however, was not removed from the COVID-19 roster in time to play on Sunday.

___

2:00 p.m.

Sam Darnold entered the game at quarterback, with the Carolina Panthers losing 10-3 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Darnold replaces starter Cam Newton, who threw an interception in the team’s second heat. As Darnold checked in for the match, fans began to boo.

Darnold was scheduled to play this week, according to coach Matt Rhule. Darnold hasn’t played in the last five games due to a shoulder injury, but has been activated out of the injured reserve this week.

1:53 p.m.

Jacksonville running back James Robinson left the Jaguars game against the New York Jets with an Achilles tendon injury. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Robinson went out of touch when Trevor Lawrence moved to Tavon Austin with 3:12 left in the first quarter. He stayed on the field away from the game for a few moments, appearing to reach for the lower part of his right leg. Robinson was checked by medics and coaches, who then helped him limp off the field to the medical tent on the sidelines.

Robinson, who was 10 yards in three races, had a towel draped over his head as he was transported from the sideline to the locker room. Dare Ogunbowale took over as running back for the Jaguars.

The Detroit Lions led the Atlanta Falcons 3-0 after the first quarter with a few rookies in the lead.

Detroit had three sacks in the opener, including Derrick Barnes’ first and Alim McNeill’s second. Levi Onwuzurike started the game with a sack, giving the Lions three players with at least one sack since 1990.

Lions rookie Riley Patterson capped a 13-game drive that was nearly 8 minutes behind with a 26-yard field goal late in the first quarter. Patterson is 8 of 8 on field goals, setting a team record for the longest streak to start a career.

12:40

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is still on the reserve / COIVD-19 roster and Tim Boyle is set to make his second career start in Atlanta.

Goff was placed on the list almost a week ago.

Lions running back Andre Swift misses his fourth straight game with a sprained right shoulder on Sunday despite returning to training ahead of the Week 16 game against the Falcons.

Detroit cornerback Amani Oruwariye was placed on the injured list on Saturday with thumb disease, ending his season with six interceptions, a record for the team.

Atlanta placed starting defensive tackle Tyeler Davison on the reserve / COVID-19 list on Sunday. Davison joins another defensive tackle, Marlon Davidson, who was placed on the reserve / COVID-19 list on Thursday.

Falcons wide receiver Tajae Sharpe is sidelined with a foot injury against Detroit.

___

12:28

The Minnesota Vikings have placed alternate quarterback Sean Mannion on the COVID-19 reserve list, causing them concern about the status of starting quarterback Kirk Cousins as he is still unvaccinated.

There was no change in the Cousins’ status for Sunday’s game against the Los Angles Rams. Cousins has a rib injury and was listed on the injury report for the first time in eight years.

The Vikings also put backup tackle Rashod Hill on the COVID-19 reserve list ahead of the game. Running back Dalvin Cook landed on the list after testing positive for the virus earlier in the week.

Minnesota recovered wide receiver Adam Thielen from the roster after a sprained ankle kept him out of the previous two games.

After their roster was ravaged by COVID-19 earlier this month, the Rams have returned to nearly all of their strength. They placed starting left tackle Andrew Whitworth on the COVID-19 reserve list on Saturday.

___

12h18

The Baltimore Ravens will be without star quarterback Lamar Jackson and replacement Tyler Huntley in Cincinnati.

Huntley has been the starter for the past two weeks while Jackson injured his ankle. Huntley was put on the reserve / COVID-19 list on Saturday.

Josh Johnson is set to start for the Ravens, giving the 35-year-old quarterback his first start since 2018 and the ninth of his career. He played for the San Diego Fleet in the Alliance of American Football in 2019 and for the Los Angeles Wildcats in the XFL last year.

The Ravens raised quarterback Kenji Bahar to the active roster on Saturday.

The Ravens have five other players on the reserve / COVID-19 roster, including starting defensive end Justin Madubuike and starting goalie Geno Stone.

The Bengals have put three on the reserve / COVID 19 roster, including starting defensive tackle DJ Reader.

12:05

The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets each lost key defensive players hours before their game kicked off at MetLife Stadium.

Jacksonville put linebacker Myles Jack on the COVID-19 roster and New York put defensive lineman Quinnen Williams on the roster on Sunday.

Jack joined passing thrower Josh Allen, wide receiver Laviska Shenault and guard Ben Bartch, who were placed on the reserve list on Friday. They didn’t make the trip to New Jersey. Allen, who is not vaccinated, will be out for at least 10 days, under current NFL protocol, and will miss the team’s Jan. 2 game in New England.

Williams is the latest loss for a Jets team particularly hard hit by a wave of COVID-19 cases. As of Sunday morning, 20 players were on active and training team rosters – including the injured reserve – on the COVID-19 roster.

Jets coach Robert Saleh was excluded from the game on Saturday because he did not clear COVID-19 protocols on Saturday. Tight Ends Coach Ron Middleton assumes the role of Head Coach.

Saleh tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday and was due to undergo two negative tests on Saturday afternoon to return to the sidelines. The coach was quarantined in a hotel while holding remote team meetings.

Jets quarterback coach Rob Calabrese will also miss the game due to COVID-19 protocols. Senior offensive assistant Matt Cavanaugh takes over as Calabrese on match days.

11:40 a.m.

The Kansas City Chiefs ruled out Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce, starting linebacker Nick Bolton and starting right tackle Lucas Niang on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

All three players tested positive for COVID-19 last week and missed every practice, but the Chiefs had activated each on the roster before the Saturday afternoon deadline to give them a chance to play at home against Pittsburgh. However, all three had to go through protocols on Sunday morning, and none did.

The Chiefs received good news on Saturday when wide receiver Tyreek Hill was tested out of protocol. He hasn’t trained all week and is expected to start as usual against the Steelers.
