Ole Miss basketball draws Marquette in Charleston Classic opener

The Ole Miss basketball team will face Marquette in the first round of the Charleston Classic.
Ole Miss is one of eight teams that will compete in the Charleston Classic at TD Arena in South Carolina from November 18-21. The Rebels face Marquette in the first round at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
The game will be Ole Miss’s third of the season, following a Nov. 9 game against New Orleans and a Nov. 12 game against Charleston Southern. These two matches will take place in Oxford.
After facing off against Marquette, Ole Miss will play either West Virginia or Elon. The other teams in the eight-team tournament are St. Bonaventure, Boise State, Clemson and Temple.
Ole Miss posted a 16-12 record in 2020-21, earning a No.1 seed in the NIT before losing in the first round to Louisiana Tech. Marquette went 13-14 last season, missed the NCAA tournament and subsequently fired coach Steve Wojciechowski.
Marquette hired Shaka Smart, who has spent the past six seasons in Texas.
Schools have played once before, Marquette winning 96-66 in 2011. Ole Miss last performed at the Charleston Classic in 2015.
