Mason Manta Rays’ Adam McDonald gives West Virginia the first verbal in 2022

NEW COMMITMENT: The University of West Virginia received its first verbal pledge for fall 2022 of the National Junior Qualifier Adam mcdonald of Middletown, Ohio.
Regarding his engagement, he said:
“I am very happy to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of West Virginia. I am grateful to my family, coaches and teammates who helped me through the process. I can’t wait to be part of an amazing team! Go mountaineers !! ”
A talented brewer and IMer, McDonald made his swim club with Mason Manta Rays and won bronze in the 200m breaststroke at the Elkart Sectionals in March. He also finished third in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke at the 18 and Under Winter Championships – Oxford in December.
His best moments include:
- 100 chest – 55.57
- 200 chest – 2: 01.77
- 200 IM – 1: 51.60
- 400 IM – 4: 03.33
A rising senior at Lakota East High School, McDonald placed seventh in the 200 IM and ninth in the 100 breaststroke as a junior at the Ohio State Championships. The week before, he was the finalist for both of these events at the Southwest District Meet.
McDonald’s is a great choice for the Mountaineers as he would have placed second in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 breaststroke in their roster last season. He would also have scored in the A final of these two events at the 2021 Big 12 Championships.
