Charleston Southern defeats Gardner-Webb in Big South Tournament final

CHARLOTTE — Charleston Southern defeated Gardner-Webb in the Big South Women’s Tennis Tournament championship match on Saturday afternoon. The final score of the game was 4-0, ending the Runnin’ Bulldogs season. This is the Buccaneers’ second consecutive Big South championship.
The Buccaneers earned the first doubles point behind their wins on Courts 1 and 3, the clinch at 3. The score at 1 was 6-1 and at 3 was 6-3. The Bucs were also winning 4-3 on Court 2 when he was called.
In singles, the first match to conclude was at 4. Noa Boyd defeated Elin Hellberg 6-0, 6-2 for the Bucs’ second point of the day. This was followed quickly by Laura Marti winning 6-1, 6-2 from position 3, for their third point.
The match was won by Madelina Man on court 2. She won the first set 6-1 and led 5-2 in the second before Manon Delsol rallied four straight wins to lead 6-5. The man fought back to win the set in a tiebreaker, securing the team the conference title.

Emilie Roslund managed to win the first set of their match, but the match was called off with them trailing 5-2 in the second set.
Gardner-Webb ends the season with a 9-9 record on the year. Second place in the conference tournament is the best in school history.
